Rep Program

2018 U18 Rep Pathway

NSW Juniors are very proud to announce the 2018 Under 18 Representative pathway for club rugby players in our state. We have been working very hard with both NSW schools and the governing bodies Rugby AU, NSW, Waratahs, SJRU and CJRU to create a substantial and quality pathway for our players.

To that end the program is slightly changed for 2018…  There is ample opportunity for all club rugby Under 18’s to partake in the Rep pathway if they so wish  … It is not only an advancement for players there are coaching opportunities as well.

Info for Players

Changes – Both CJRU and SJRU will each select an “Opens” representative team (in line with what schools do) rather than selecting both an U17s and U18s side. This should hopefully help the talent pool dovetail the pathway into the NSWJRU U18s and its program.

2018 Under 18 Representative Pathway for Club Rugby players

Pre-Jun – Sydney and NSW Country will select their U18 sides…

  • Sydney U18’s will be open to all age eligible players registered and playing in either SJRU, SRU Colts or Subbies Colts competitions. Selections will be via an open trial day will be held in late Mar / Early April.
  • Country U18’s will be selected from their junior Opens teams at their Country Championships

Mon 11th Jun (Mon of long weekend) – Representative fixture Sydney U18 vs NSW Country U18 …

  • played at the NSWJRU State Championships venue as feature game… (The Opens (U17/18) State Championships final will be held prior either on the Sunday afternoon or Monday morning dependant on the draw – so players will be able to represent both their district & Sydney/Country if they want to)

Sun 17th Jun – Representative games, Sydney & Country teams vs NSW CHS….

  • The winner of Sydney v Country to play CHS 1 and loser to play CHS 2

Sun 17th Jun – prelim NSWJRU U18’s teams announced for next games vs ACT… both a NSWJRU A & B teams selected…  Selected primarily from Sydney and Country teams but note players from the NSWJRU Opens State championships may also be eligible for selection to a NSWJRU team if warranted. We don’t want to miss anyone in our talent ID process – so if you missed the Sydney or Country teams initially you could still get picked up for a NSWJRU team from the State Championships.

  • NSWJRU A to play the ACT U18’s and NSWJRU B to play ACT U17’s

Sun 24th Jun – prelim NSWJRU U18’s teams re-selected for next games vs AAGPS…

Fri 29th Jun – Final NSWJRU team selected to contest the Div 2 Nationals

NSWJRU Training regime in interim to be sorted by coaches

Sat 7th or Sun 8th Jul (I need to confirm exact dates) – Div 2 Nationals at the Southport School, Gold Coast

Gen Blue Selections

All players will come under the scrutiny of the Gen Blue selectors throughout this pathway and be eligble for selection into the Gen Blue program for 2019. Thanks to Tim Rapp, Pat McCutcheon and Matt Evrard here.

NSWJRU Team Selections

The NSWJRU teams will have an independent selection panel working with the coaches to ensure transparency and fairness in selections.

This should enable all players to be seen and identified and give the various coaches a chance to prepare their squads adequately

Yet to be determined what these will be (and what subsidies are available)… But for players selected there will be a user pays levy of some sort for the players to cover travel and accommodation.

Info for Coaches

The plan for coaching (and to make it very attractive for prospective coaches) is to have the Sydney and Country coaches also to be appointed as the NSW coaches… this will give them some consistency as well as accounting for the limited timespan we have in the program.  The winning coaching team of the City v Country game will be given the NSWJRU A gig (so adds something more to this clash).

So if you are interested in coaching a NSW team at this level please note you need apply for the SYDNEY or COUNTRY U18s roles as it is all encompassing this year.

For Sydney please contact Luke Thiessen or Tony Cooper

The Country coaches have already been selected.
